What's Your Fantasy: A Placeholder Post

Hello, blog readers. I don't know if you know me yet... but since Meimei still hasn't returned from her summer hiatus, she thought it would be a good idea for me to faff around with this blog a little bit.

Yes, I understand that I am following in the grand tradition established by the likes of Gerard Butler and Jason Statham, and - try as I might - I doubt that I will ever replace The Sarsgaard in her heart. Well, all right, so Mr. Darcy has come pretty close to doing that for her, but still.

Not to mention that Mei has only seen three of my projects, and only one of them was deemed any good:
I'm sorry, but not even a mustache and '70s-style cop gear - and standing next to Paddy Considine - could hide those cheekbones from La Meimei. (Although how I managed to elude her in that zombie movie continues to puzzle me.)

Then there's this, and even I will admit that I looked insanely hot here. Except for the part where I die, but that's beside the point, right?

And then there was that BBC project that she and The Scribe (oh, hi there!) would like to refer to as The Abomination:

My apologies to those of you who remain traumatized.

(I know Meimei still is, because it says a lot about a woman who would rather watch Gilles Marini's performances on Dancing With The Stars than acknowledge, once more, that this project ever existed. In fact, she would rather acknowledge that my Dad is hot, than admit to watching this at all. Damn you, Andrew Davies. Damn you to hell.)

It's a pity that Meimei will be missing my return to PBS (and in an episode of the Marple series, no doubt - that, my friends, is the sound of her brain exploding) due to... uh... well, I am not at liberty to say it, because I'm waiting for her to tell you herself. It's not her fault that we won't be reunited right away, I can tell you that.

(And seriously, Hollywood? Do I have to wait until somebody casts me in the next big movie franchise - or at least as Patrick Jane's equally unhinged brother on The Mentalist - to get noticed? Like that's going to happen any time soon. Okay, rant over.)

So until Meimei can get herself together, I will be here, serving as a bulwark of relative sanity to tide you over.

Oh, who am I kidding? Let's go ahead and watch that sexy bastard Gilles shake his boo-tay on television one more time, shall we? (And memo to the casting directors of DWTS America: Please contact my father instead. Casting me will only cheapen the whole thing, you know?)

And Now, It Has Come to This....

Domesticity is officially on summer hiatus, starting today. Depending how things go, new entries should be up again some time in June.

Andiamo!

What's Your Fantasy: Make It So

As much as I love the new Star Trek movie (and I really, really do... ask my friends who would never, ever think that I'd be a Trekkie so late in life) and as much as I want to join the chorus of people in the process of casting the sequel in our heads, I am also not afraid to admit that there is only one more character in the Trek canon for whom I'd pay top dollar (and line up at midnight) to see in a rebooted Trek universe.

I present to you: Jean-Luc Picard.

And while I'm on the subject of Picard, his Romulan clone - while obviously a naughty, naughty boy that does get punished, and deservedly so - is every bit as fine as the Captain himself.

Memo to Tom Hardy: Get J.J. Abrams' phone number NOW.

It's that time again...

So maybe you've been noticing that I'm getting restless with this blog - not a lot of makeup and fashion to write about, perhaps? And it's not like I want to use this blog to spill the deets about my personal life (that's what Facebook email is for), so using this space as a personal diary is out of the question.

However... I am occupied with other things lately.

Take knitting, for example. Ever since I finished my first sweater, I've been occupying myself with yarn and needles - going so far as to join a knitting club here on Oahu and branching out from scarves to bags, blankets, and baby booties. It's gotten so engrossing for me that I can't go another day without working on some wicked knit-purl combinations.

And what about my cooking? I've posted recipes on this blog before; it's as if I've branched out from ultra-chic Allure territory to a mishmash of Real Simple and Redbook. In fact, I've actually toyed with the idea of writing my own cookbook... but I'm worried because that means I'll have to get hooked up with a test kitchen, just to make sure some of the stuff I've actually made won't taste like crap when people other than myself try to make them.

Don't even get me started on TV. Seriously, don't. I only have basic cable (or as I like to call it, the "OMG I can't believe Hawaii just made the full switch to digital and I can't afford to pay that much for The CW" package) so there's no way I'm catching series on non-network channels... not to mention that at this point, DVR is totally out of the question. Besides, my TV viewing tastes don't really conform to what the cool kids (read: actual critics) tend to dig on nowadays... seriously, what kind of pop-culture diva would I be if my idea of must-see TV includes This Old House and The Mentalist... and no interest whatsoever in the combined works of Bryan Fuller, Ronald Moore and Joss Whedon?

(To my credit, though: I'm actually beginning to lurve The Unusuals and Fringe, and my excuse for watching Masterpiece Theatre is the same excuse I make for watching Dancing With The Stars: I'm just there for the parade of hotties. Ahem. Ahem.)

So: Enough talky-talky; let's get down to business.

What a Way to Start the Day: Chanel's Night Train

For those of you who can't wait for the new Chanel movie with Audrey Tautou, you can now view her new Chanel No. 5 ad, Night Train, at http://www.chaneln5.com/en-us/#/the-film.

The ad itself reunites Audrey with Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who directed her in Amelie and A Very Long Engagement - and Jeunet himself says that the ad is a way of closing out that particular "trilogy. " And indeed there are some themes in this ad that are also prevalent in the other movies: love, longing, serendipity... not to mention such exquisite, romantic cinematography. (Also? Hot guy. Woohoo.)

As one of those folks who lurve Chanel, and especially Chanel No. 5 (which I wore to death in high school... yep, pretentious), this is definitely a treat.

****

Speaking of sweeping and romantic: Just found out that a certain couple named Maggie and Peter got married in Italy. Woohoo! And cheers, you crazy kids you. Now I'm off to find a new pretend-boyfriend for this blog... any suggestions? Or should I just continue the parade on the Hotties section of this blog? Also, is this God's way of telling me to get a real boyfriend? Discuss.

Happy Birthday to Me

So, no hot guys have shown up at my doorstep (...yet), but I figured I'd share a picture of things that have turned up just in time for my birthday.

TOP - The Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gift: Mini sample sizes of Super Shimmer Lip Gloss in (from left) Precious Pink, Rosy Glow, and Bronzed Beauty. Basically, a smaller version of this set - except with warmer colors.

BOTTOM - Everyday Minerals Sand Castle Kit (a gift from Scribey): Boardwalk (shimmery chocolate brown with gold sparkle), Driftwood (matte creamy caramel) , Funnel Cake (shimmery copper-gold), and Freckles (khaki green with gold shimmer) - which, I swear, looks like a dead ringer for any one of the olive shadows that MAC came out with last year.

Not shown: the niftily fluffy bamboo eyeshadow brush that came with the Everyday Minerals set.

No swatches yet, but I'm planning to wear at least one of these looks when I go out today. Cheers!
