Shameless Self-Flogging (just in time for the holidays!)

Just so you know, there's a new tag on this page...

My Amazon.com Wish List

I'm not doing this to be materialistic, folks - y'all don't have to buy anything for me, really - but I thought I'd add this just for kicks. Any helpful suggestions on how to improve said list would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, your blog (Jan. entry) came up on a google search. I'm supposed to go to an "aloha crisp" party this weekend and need fashion advice. What would you wear? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi mbs! Thanks for stopping by. I'll try my best to help you on this one.

"Aloha Crisp" = anything that's both tailored and Hawaiian-inspired. Think more along the lines of Tommy Bahama, Reyn Spooner, and Tori Richard, as opposed to Magnum PI and Jimmy Buffett concerts.

For men, I'd recommend crisp khakis, Hawaiian shirts in subdued patterns (none of the loud neon colors of stereotypical Hawaiian shirts), and maybe a light-colored summer weight jacket on top if you're feeling suave; I'd also recommend leather belts and shoes in a light color, since dark colors with Hawaiian patterns come off as too business-y for a party. For women, I'd say go with more of a Lilly Pulitzer-inspired look, like an aloha-print skirt or dress (again with the subdued patterns) paired with a solid top/ cardigan in a complimentary color and strappy sandals. The key here is to keep everything light, sporty, and casual, like you've been invited to a VIP-only backyard barbecue at a seaside mansion on Oahu.

Hope this helps!

What a very reasonable wish list! Mine is rather more materialistic, hence I am keeping it secret :)
